Rust is common for metals and as one of the mostly or common choice of material for boatlifts. Not only it's not pleasing to the eyes, it can cause serious problem to vehicles,  manufacturing equipment and metal structures. 

What is the main cause of rust?

Rust is the result of where the iron in metals comes into contact with oxygen and water, it is a normal  chemical reaction known as oxidation.  The rusting process are even faster if metals are exposed to salt, acids, chemicals and changes in temperature.
