Marine Salvage

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at office@kitzenconstruction.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Marine salvage refers to the process of recovering or rescuing a vessel, its cargo, or other property from the sea or any body of water after it has been damaged, stranded, or sunk. The primary objective of marine salvage is to prevent or minimize environmental damage, protect valuable assets, and restore the navigational safety of waterways.

  1. Shipwrecks: When a vessel sinks due to accidents, storms, collisions, or other disasters, salvors are tasked with raising the vessel and its cargo to the surface.
  2. Groundings: If a vessel runs aground or becomes stranded in shallow waters, salvors are called upon to free the ship and refloat it.
  3. Disasters and emergencies: Salvage may be required in response to maritime disasters like oil spills, where efforts are made to contain and recover spilled oil and mitigate environmental damage.
  4. Salvage of cargo: Sometimes, cargo itself may be valuable, and efforts are made to recover it from sunken or damaged vessels.
